To enhance security and help protect member information, your Miami Firefighter FCU credit cards will now feature EMV ‘Chip’ Technology.
‘Chip’ cards will contain information programmed for your account. Each transaction that you make with your card generates a unique code, adding an extra layer of security against fraud.
Here’s what you need to know:
The new ‘Chip’ Credit Cards were mailed to you on or around February 27th (it doesn’t matter when your old card expires).
You must activate your new card by calling 1-866-271-6679. If you don’t know your PIN, you may create a new one when you call to activate your card (or at any other time). You will be asked to enter your card number and then follow the prompts. A PIN may be needed to validate some transactions.
We have begun to issue chip debit cards to our members with the first shipment of high security cards being mailed in November. You can expect to receive your new debit card in 2017 in the month of your expiration date.
- your debit card expires on 08/2018 – you will receive your new debit card in August, 2017,
- if your debit card expires 06/2017 – you will receive your new card in June 2017.
You must activate your new card by calling 1-800-757-9848. If you don’t know your PIN, you may create a new one when you call to activate your card (or at any other time). You will be asked to enter your card number and then follow the prompts. A PIN may be needed to validate some transactions.
Please destroy your old card once you have activated your EMV card. Thirty days after you receive your new card, the old one will automatically be shut off.
Since not all merchants have yet installed chip-enabled terminals, your new card will continue to have a magnetic stripe on the back.
That way, if a merchant’s terminal or an ATM is not yet ‘chip’-enabled, your transaction can still be processed by swiping the magnetic stripe just like you do now.
